Getting The Most Storage From Your Small Apartment
If you live in an apartment, you know that it can be tough to store all of your goods effectively. Apartments can feel cluttered, making it frustrating to keep the things you use out of view until you need them. If you're in need of more storage in your apartment, here are a few ideas to help you get the most out of your smaller living space.
Use Ottomans
Storage ottomans not only look great, but they can also serve two purposes. These round or rectangular pieces of furniture can provide extra seating, serve as a footstool, or even double as a coffee table. A storage ottoman should have a removable top so you can put things inside like couch throws, extra pillows, towels, or whatever else you need to store out of sight. Since they're already doubling as a piece of furniture, it's a great way to get two uses in one.
Baskets For Storage
Instead of just stacking things on a shelf, use baskets instead. These baskets can serve as a catch all and keep little items out of sight. Label each basket with tags such as "utensils" or "cleaning supplies" and place them on your shelving in the pantry or other areas of the apartment. Deep baskets can keep your stuff out of plain view, and you can just grab them when you need to pull something out.
Pegboard
Pegboard doesn't have to just be used in tool sheds. Add a large piece of pegboard in your kitchen and add a few hooks to hang pots and pans and kitchen knives. When you make storage go vertical, you're giving yourself a lot more room overall. This also makes access simple and easy, and then you can simply rehang everything when you're done using it. This will also free up your stove top and kitchen drawers, providing room for other essentials like aluminum foil and eating utensils.
Don't Forget Under The Bed
If you have a ton of clothes and shoes, get an under the bed organizer to store them. Put summer shoes away in a shoe organizer, and fold your sweaters and extra blankets up in an under-bed plastic container until you're ready to use them again. This will give you a lot more space in your closet, and you can simply switch out seasonal items in the storage containers as you need to. By making the most out of the space you have, you can maximize your living area and still have plenty of room to store your stuff.
