Exploring The Benefits Of Shredding Services

Hi there, I'm Ginny Rickets. As a business owner, I always pay close attention to reports of identity theft. In my area, people were stealing documents out of the garbage to obtain personally identifiable information about their victims. The biggest impacts were to businesses that threw all of their old client and employee information into the trash at the end of the year. I began researching ways to avoid this crime and stumbled across shredding service companies. I was instantly won over by the services offered by shredding professionals. I now take all of my old documents into the shredding department to dispose of them properly. I hope to use this website to inspire others to do the same. I will share the benefits of using a shredded service over the other document disposal options. Thanks for visiting.

5 Tips For Repairing A Window AC Unit

If you have a window air conditioning unit that used to work perfectly, but is now giving you problems, it might be time to troubleshoot it. Luckily, these types of units are not difficult to repair. You can try making some simple repairs first before calling in a professional. Here are some tips for repairing your window AC unit.

Gather What You Need

To repair a window air conditioning unit, there are some basic tools and materials you will need. While you may not use every one of these, it is a good idea to have them on hand so you are fully prepared. Before you start your repair project, make sure you have:

  • Warm water
  • Screwdriver
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Dishwashing detergent
  • Bleach
  • Fin comb
  • Heavy-duty brush

Get the Air Conditioner Ready

You should never investigate or repair an air conditioner when it is turned on. Make sure the unit is turned off, then unplug it. You may also want to turn off the circuit for the window air conditioner to be sure you do not accidentally get electrocuted. Once it is unplugged, get it prepared by removing the front grill. Your screwdriver should be efficient at removing it. You may also need the flat end of a screwdriver to gently pry it off, but this depends on the model.

Remove the Unit

Once the front grill of the unit is off, you can remove the air conditioner unit. You need to have it out of the window so you can repair it properly. The back of the air conditioner is pointed out the window, so you won't be able to repair it without removing it. Gently slide it out of the base in the window, getting someone to assist you if you find that it is too heavy and bulky to move yourself. Move the unit to a durable surface, such as your dining room table.

Clean the Filter

A lot of issues with window air conditioners have to do with being dirty. Start with the filter by investigating it and seeing if it is clogged. If so, remove it from the unit and wash it thoroughly with warm water. You can also try a little bleach or mild detergent to wash it. Make sure you rinse it and remove excess water. Place it on a clean and dry towel to let it dry completely. You should also clean out the inside of your unit by using the attachment on your vacuum cleaner.

Check the Evaporator Coils

One of the most common problems with a window AC unit has to do with the evaporator coils. Look at their quality, as well as the fins attached to the coins. If any of the fins look like they are bent, you can use a fin comb to straighten them. This alone might fix the unit. Once you are done with that, turn over the unit to check the back coils, called the condenser coils. Vacuum them to clean them and check to see if any of these are bent. Straighten them and take note of other worn down parts you notice.

If you are still having problems with the unit, contact an HVAC technician like All Appliance Service Inc, to help you get your AC unit back in working order.
